NHL Playoff Predictions 2009

ROUND 1

Eastern Conference

(1) Boston v. (8) Montreal
Bruins in 6
The Habs will put up a fight, but Boston is just too good. If Carey Price wakes up things could get interesting.

(2) Washington v. (7) NY Rangers
Capitals in 4
The Capitals are going to destroy them.

(3) New Jersey v. (6) Carolina
Devils in 7
This one might be tight, but I can’t bet against Marty B.

(4) Pittsburgh v. (5) Philadelphia
Penguins in 7
This series is going to be rough and chippy, the Penguins’ skill should prevail, but they will pay. I had to pick Syd & Co., mostly because Elijah always chooses them to cheer for.

Western Conference

(1) San Jose v. (8) Anaheim
Sharks in 5
I think this is the year the Sharks shed their playoff demons, mostly because they have a Detroit trained coach behind the bench!

(2) Detroit v. (7) Columbus
Red Wings in 6
Detroit of course, although Steve Mason will make it tough.

(3) Vancouver v. (6) St. Louis
Canucks in 6
The Canucks look good right now, that guy playing net for them might just mean they go deep this year.

(4) Chicago v. (5) Calgary
Blackhawks in 7
The Foster’s and most of the Ashby’s will hate me for it, but I just can’t see Calgary pulling it off – they have been questionable all season defensively, and they are running on 1 out their top 3 right now.

As a Detroit Red Wings fan, this story makes me very happy.  Looks like another decade of domination by the Wings may be on the way.
