Work

June 5, 2008 Tim 1 comment

I’m enjoying my first week of work.  Nice getting paid a bit for doing similar stuff as I paid to do the last 10 months – and I’m learning more than many days at school of course.  I’m getting exposure to all sorts of different issues so far which is great.  Even solved a couple of problems for people which is nice too.  I thought I would be mostly sitting at a desk answering phones and changing passwords, but it hasn’t been that at all thankfully – they don’t let me answer the phone(fine by me, been there done that), and they assign me calls they think will be good learning experiences, which is way better than I thought it would be.

Monday…

May 1, 2006 Tim 1 comment

- I work 5 shifts this week – I am most definitely not a 60 hour/a week workaholic type person… I’m not looking forward to it… only 57.5 hours left.
- My insurance company now says it wants a safety done on my truck. Would have been a nice thing to know about a month ago. It is at the mechanic as I type… wish me luck.
- Last night we had our second second service… it was good. Francis did a great manolog or monologue. This week coming up we will try the idea of doing communion as a meal.
- This morning I’ve been perusing Time Magazine’s Top 100. Some interesting information about people, many who I’ve heard about and some that I haven’t. How about Jigme Singye Wangchuck, the king of Bhutan, here’s the quote from the magazine:

“Almost 30 years ago, long before “positive psychology” became a boom in the West, King Jigme, now 50, suggested that nations be measured by “gross national happiness”; the rich are not always happy, after all, while the happy generally consider themselves rich….King Jigme—who gave up absolute power in 1998 and last year sent every household in the land a new draft constitution that allowed for his impeachment—is setting a quietly revolutionary precedent. If most politicians are inherently suspect because they seem so eager to grab power and so reluctant to surrender it, what does one make of a leader who voluntarily gives up his position, as if placing his people’s needs before his own?”

Very interesting…

I’ve only read about 10 so far, we’ll see if anything else jumps out.

Trajedy close to home…

March 28, 2005 Tim Leave a comment

It seems like trajedy has hit close to home this past month or so. The shooting of four RCMP members near Mayerthorpe Alberta hits close to home for Tara and I – it could easily be the members we work with everyday in that situation, and that’s a scary thought.

About two weeks ago, 2 firefighters were killed here in Yellowknife. Today is the first of two funerals. One was a young man who had not even collected his first pay check, one was a veteran and long time Yellowknifer.

Our prayers and thoughts are with these families – the news will move on of course, but their grief will linger…

Weekend/Back to work…

June 7, 2004 Tim Leave a comment

Well, back to work for me(Tim) after a great weekend off – we finally had some nice weather – actually really nice weather for Thursday through Sunday, and no bugs yet – so that makes it extra nice! I replaced our water heater on Friday, the joys of home ownership! It was actually under warranty, and I managed to install it myself (with only about 28 phone calls to Doug for advice) so the whole process didn’t cost us anything – assuming the installation turns out okay of course! Yesterday was a great day spent with our church family, a good morning assembly time, a baptism after that, good lunch with friends, then a good hike out to Cameron Falls and Birthday supper for Steve(hot dogs) at the Hugo/Beaton cabin/retreat center with Steve & Rebecca & kids, the Dunsford/Goertzen clan, Joel, and Gene & Barb. A great way to finish off a great weekend. Now back to work for 5 shifts this week before I head off to Regina a week from today.
